Welcome to the Tampa Kappa League Homepage. Under the direction of the Tampa Alumni Guide Right Foundation, Inc. and the Tampa Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Tampa Kappa League is committed to promoting and developing the leadership potential of its members, while motivating them to strive for greater levels of achievement in any endeavor, in which they choose to participate.


The fundamental purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi is achievement. It is therefore, the Fraternity’s responsibility to assist the young men of Kappa League achieve worthy goals and to make constructive contributions to their communities, when they become leaders.

 

Kappa League provides both challenging and rewarding experiences that enhance the lives of its participants. In conjunction with formal mentoring, and active involvement, members of Kappa League are exposed to, and take part in, projects that cultivate their planning, execution, reporting, and practical leadership skills.  


History

The Kappa Youth Leadership & Development League, commonly referred to as “Kappa League”, is a national initiative for the educational, occupational, and social guidance of male students in grades 6 to 12.  Kappa League was founded on, February 12, 1969, by the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., at Alain LeRoy Locke High School.  It was adopted by the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. at the 56th Grand Chapter meeting, which was held August 12-15, 1970.


Objectives

Kappa League is designed so that the leadership potential of its members is encouraged and developed. Active participation in club-oriented activities is intended to motivate and raise aspiration levels.

Seven Phases of Kappa League

The nucleus and primary focus of Kappa League revolves around these principals.

Discipline, Assurance, Awareness, and Appearance

Phase 2: Training

Academics, Career Choice, Preparation, and Organization

Phase 3: Competition

Politics, Career Advancement, and Sports

Phase 4: social

Religion, The Arts, Entertainment, Conversation, Communication, and   Etiquette/Manners

Phase 5: health education

Physical Fitness, Sex Education, Drugs, Health and Safety

Phase 6: Economic empowerment & education

Stock Market, Fundamentals of Banking, Earning, Saving, Spending, and Cash vs Credit

Phase 7: college & Career

Academic Readiness, High School & Beyond, Career Day, College Admissions, Financial Aid Workshops, Survival Skills

Goals

The Goals of Tampa Kappa League are to:

  • Help each young man to discover his unique skills and abilities, so he can find and fulfill his purpose
  • Prepare young men to become leaders of impact and influence
  • Promote academic achievement by encouraging enrollment in Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses
  • Obtain 100% on-time grade promotion and high school graduation and collegiate / trade school acceptance rates
  • Train Kappa Leaguers to become role models of positive change for other youth within their school and community
